The Quebec government has had MANY discussions about BANNING religious symbols in PUBLIC institutions (schools, hospitals, government buildings).

That means:
- banning the crucifix from your necklace
- removing a hijab or burqua
- no kippah

What do you think of this BAN?
Do you think it is right to tell people what they could/could not wear in PUBLIC institutions?

Explain.

  1. I think that it is not a really good idea to ban the religious symbols because then it would mean that they are breaking the rules by doing that. Also why are they banning the religious symbols it's what they are it represents them. It is so weird that they are allowed to wear it in public but they are allowed in there place they go to learn the religion.

  3. I think that banning something that is important to certain religions is just dumb. I think there is nothing wrong with people seeing that you are different from the rest or to show that you are proud of what you are not have to hide it from the world. The Quebec government has made many dumb decisions but this is by far the worst. it would be hurtful for me to be told i'm not aloud to express myself and my religion.

  4. It is not a good idea. The government has no right to tell them what to wear and how they should represent their religion. My mother’s friend has sadly just passed away, and for respect: all friends and family have to wear a cross on them for 1 year, now, I can’t even wear something religious out of respect. What if someone has to wear a mask for medical orders, and the government thinks it has to do with there religion. It could possibly kill them if that does happen.

  5. I honestly think this is like the worst decision ever. Most of the time i wear a crucifix around my neck because i am catholic. Like i go to church a lot. It would really pain me to not be able to wear it in school and stuff because when i wear it i feel more safe. It also really annoys me because my best friend's mom wears a hijab and i'm sure if this law is enforced she would definitely not be happy. Also these pieces of clothing and items represent who we are and where we come from. So my overall point being this is a horrible idea.

  6. Firstly, forcing anyone to wear/take of something which their religion doesn’t allow is wrong. If wearing the crucifix for example is fine, it harms no-one in anyway. In my opinion this law is worthless and dumb, forcing someone to remove a peace of their religion is wrong. People have the right to follow any religion and they should have the right to show it in anyway without hurting anyone.

  7. This is a terrible rule in my opinion. I think that people should be allowed to wear whatever they want because if it is representing there religion or culture.Like numair said its not harming anyone else so i don't see what the issue is. This is a completely ignorant and dumb law.

  8. It’s just wrong. I thought canada was supposed to be the only place where people could hear religious symbols without being screamed at or throne in jell. I am ashamed. It’s like telling someone the can’t hear pants in public. It’s just weir. It’s not right to tell people what they can and can’t do. Things like laws, the good ones, are there keep order and to keep people from misbehaving. But trying to make a law like that is not good, maybe it seemed like a good idea but it really is not.

  9. I think this is a bad idea, because if you think of it if someone has a religion and they have to wear a kippah or anything else, it wouldn’t be fair. I mean some people wear crosses as part of their religion and if the government bands this, they will not be able to wear them. I think that if the government bands this then he is very stupid.

  11. I don't think this is a good idea. You're religion is part of your identity. I really don't understand what this is supposed to do. It's not fair to take away someone's traditions. Especially for no obvious reason. I think that we should worry about the homeless before we worry about our clothes. What I find plain ridiculous, is that fact you could lose you're job over something like that.

  12. I think is wrong to tell people what they could not wear in public. Someone want to wear their religious symbol, because that is part of their tradition. The Quebec government can't take away their traditions. That is their religious they have the right to express it.

  13. I think that banning religious symbols in public institutions is absolutely horrible. It may be “for peace”, but if this becomes an official law, it will just attract more hate to the government. Lots of people take religion very seriously and will be extremely offended if this happens. I do not think that the Quebec government has any right to tell people what to wear. This is also a really bad idea because it will make a lot of people move out of Quebec. No one wants to live under a borderline fascist government.

  14. I think banning religious symbols in public institutions is ridiculous because it will obviously end in retaliation which will continue with guns and shooting and death. Lots of people care about their religions and so in the end if we do this it just wont end well.
